OK I was given a complimentary tour but as always
my thoughts and opinions are totally mine
OK so I’m in like a million blogger groups and I came across a post for a tour company called Localite Tours that wanted to work with bloggers. I realized that they are in my hometown so how could I pass this up. I wrote them about another event that I’m going to later this month but they also invited me to come along on a Retro Cocktail Tour that they offer. So off I went and I had the best time. Let me tell you more about them and then, the tour.
Localite Tours, based in Oakland CA, offers walking tours in both Oakland and San Francisco, rain or shine. They are a fully licensed tour company and their walking tours are based on the neighborhood so you will get a bit of their local flavor as well as a bit of a history lesson. And the best part, once you book your tour, all food, drinks, and admission to events and activities on the tour are included. Yay!
Oh and before I forget, this is a walking tour (There is a waiver. If you book with them, its understood that you have read and understood it). If you need an accommodation, call the office BEFORE you book to make sure that they can take care of your needs. And please wear some comfortable shoes, cause uhmmmm your walking LOL. Now, take a look at their video…
Downtown Oakland is filled with lots of old buildings. Lots of history here and sometimes, when you grow up in a city, you overlook it. But there was also some history that I didn’t know so learning about it was pretty cool.
After meeting at Latham Square with with Erica and Gretchen
we headed to our first stop, Bar Dogwood
While at Bar Dogwood, we enjoyed the best grilled cheese sandwich EVER! And our drink was a Jack Rose. Did I mention that the grilled cheese sandwich was the BEST EVER! OMG!
We then headed down the block to Fauna where we enjoyed a Carter Beats The Devil. Yeah it had a hellva name but it was good.
Fauna also has several different events. Last night, they had a cocktail tasting so make sure that you check out their website for their current offerings.
Then, we headed to Era Bar and Lounge After showing our id’s, we headed to the upstairs lounge.
We got a opportunity to take bitters, enjoy at Boulevardier
and had a bartender that gave us a brief history lesson on alcohol in this country. I cant remember her name (shes the one in the picture on the top right of the grid) but she will make me go back there again, just to get a conversation with her going again. She was great! Thanks Era Bar!
We ended our tour around the corner at Plum Bar
there we talked with John who told us about our drink, the Frankenberry which is made with PB strawberry gin, lemon, PB curacao, lillet, PB pine needle tincture, absinthe. We also enjoyed rosted sweet potato and a beet salad. Pretty good.
All in all, this was a great tour and Localite Tours is a wonderful company to work with. Ready to book your tour? You can online or you can call their office at 510-550-5258. And you can use the code 6102T1F3 to get $5.00 off the price of a tour. I hope that you have a great time and thank you Erica and Gretchen for your hospitality.
