Recently, I attended LA Cookie Con in Pasadena and had a good time. Let’s talk.
I’m a early bird, always have been. Get in early and leave early afternoon. This time was no different. I met up with my assistant, Tashia, jumped on the Gold line and headed to the convention center. And I’m glad we did cause the lines to register were long, even at 8:30 am. The ribbon cutting was due to be held at 9:45 am by Pasadena’s Mayor but instead it was done by Chef Ron Ben-Israel of Sweet Genius. Once the ribbon was cut, inside we went.
Inside the event we got a taste a bit from some of several of the best bakers in Southern California. I have several pictures on my Instagram page if you wanna take a look. This is the type of event that’s a feast for the eyes. If I had a favorite, it would be of Albert of Albert’s Petite Sweets. See the pic….those are cake roses that he designed himself. Very nice!
He’s cute and he bakes. SWEET! He mentioned to me that he was a trainer but his cake business really took off so this is what he does full time. Congrats Albert!
There were several cake demos and suppliers there where you could make purchases. Some of the contestants from Master Chef Junior was also in attendance.
With this being the first year of the event, I figured out ahead of time that there would be some issues logistically and of course there were. The biggest one was it was crowded. It was too large for the venue that it had but the organizer stated that they would have a bigger venue next year which is great. I really do hope that this event will continue as its a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles which is a wonderful charity and one of my favorites.
Overall, if your baker, lover of sweets and a good time, check out LA Cookie Con next year! I, of course, will definitely be back!
