Book review: Real Moms Love to Eat

While reading my email from SocialMoms.com I came across a opportunity to review a cook book call Real Moms Love to Eat , How to Conduct a Love Affair with Food and Still Look Fabulous by Beth Aldrich with Eve Adamson.  Beth is a Healthy Lifestyle and Nutrition expert,  speaker, media personality, and she cracks me up!

Now for my friends reading this, yes I’m writing a review for a cookbook.  And yes I’m going to actually cook some of the recipes in the book (I will have pics up soon lol)  Now back to the review.

The essence of this cookbook that Beth wrote is about loving food and making  lifestyle changes.  And if you can have a laugh or two all the better.

This cookbook is broke down into three sections: Flirting with Foods, Getting Serious, and Happy Endings (this sections has recipes).

“For dinner every night, make sure your meal contains two naturally green things, one naturally red thing, and one naturally yellow thing.
(No, a bag of Skittles doesn’t count.)”

This book is different because Beth is having a conversation with all us Moms who struggle with issues surrounding food.  She allows the reader to get over their issues with some real life strategies and  21 days of meal suggestion that you wont have you going to a specialty store to make your purchases.

For example, one of the suggestion is to makeover salt, fat and sugar.  Their replacements: gourmet salts, canola oil and the occasional pat of organic butter.

“Real Moms can eat salt, fat, and sugar. You don’t have to ditch your dysfunctional friends. You just have to limit your exposure to them—or better yet, give them a makeover.”

Beth Aldrich’s Real Moms Love To Eat is a girls second best friend (diamonds will ALWAYS be first lol).  Her cookbook is about living clean and loving food.  Just as much as well love ourselves and our families.

Thank you Beth for allowing me to read your cookbook and I will let you know about the changes that I make in my own household.

Book review ~ Blogging Success: Tips for Creating Content, Getting Traffic and Monetizing Your Blog

Recently, while on Facebook, I saw a opportunity to do a review of Blogging Success: Tips for Creating Content, Getting Traffic and Monetizing Your Blog by Holly Reisem Hanna.  She is the owner of The Work At Home Women and I was one of the lucky ones who got picked as a reviewer.

Thanks Holly!  Now on to the book!

3D Book Cover

After reading this e-book, I became more determined to make some changes to my own site and will do so with the advice written in this book.  This book is more like a conversational how to book but provides you with enough detail step by step to turn your bogging into a money making business.

Section one is about creating content and contains everything from sharing your point of view, to defining your niche to having the right hosting (no free sites if you want to have a serious money making blog) to letting you true personality shine through your posts. The “best advice in this section is “blogging is not a get rich quick sport”

Section two is all about getting traffic for you blog.  This section covers using word of mouth, social media, email newsletter and even using HARO to get your voice heard and bring them to your blog.

Section three covers monetization techniques (btw, this is the section that really got my attention). In here you will find advice how to use your blog to make money.  The best advice in this section…use different venues to bring advertisers and traffic to your blog.  But of course your have to do the work in the other sections to make sure that you have the right amount of traffic that the advertisers seek.

And I learned about using Alexa, Sitemap, of course SEO, using ad networks (I had no idea what this was before) and treating my blog like a business by not using free sites and having one that’s self hosted (yup I want this to help start paying the bills).  It also covers the advice of tying your name to your blog and meeting other bloggers by attending events, either live or online, as much as you can, reading business books and the like.

Overall, this was a great read and EXTREMELY helpful.  I think that only thing that was missing was a section on vlogging but I guess that will be in her next e-book.

You, as either a newbie to blogging or a established blogger, should add this to your collection of books on your e-reader or download it like I did and go to town on it with your highlighter.

Enjoy!

Offer:

Holly is offering all the readers of my blog $10 off her e-book. (Nice!) You can go to http://www.theworkathomewoman.com/products/  and use “THANKS” at checkout for your discount.
