Earth Day 2013
Happy Earth Day!
Today is the day but in many communities the celebrations happened last weekend. Well what is Earth Day exactly. Here’s an explanation as taken from the Bay Area Earth Day website:
“Earth Day is a day to promote awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. It is on 22 April. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-Wisconsin) as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year. The first Earth Day was in 1970.
Nearly 20 million Americans participated in the first Earth Day celebration on April 22, 1970. In the decades since, Earth Day has spread across the globe with thousands of events in more than 180 countries. From its beginning, the event influenced environmental politics, triggering such national legislation as the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. “Earth Day is a commitment to make life better, not just bigger and faster,” the organizers of the first celebration wrote in their manifesto. “It is a day to re-examine the ethic of individual progress at mankind’s expense.”
I didn’t participate in any Earth Day events; since every day is earth day I feel like I’m doing my part by
- using refillable water containers instead of throw away plastics
- using canvas bags for groceries (this one was made easier since they now charge for bags at grocery stores in my county)
- ‘Im learning about composting
- I unplug stuff not in use (my cell and laptop)
- I’m on public transportation (don’t have a car so this is a no brainer lol)
What are you doing this earth day? Oh and I have some friends who are sharing their Earth Day plans, check out the links below

Gratitude Spartacus
One of my favorite shows came to an end.
For those that didn’t know, Spartacus was shown on Starz and I was in love from the first episode. And yes, its that Spartacus. The Roman slave who broke free and with the aid of Crixus, Agron, Grannius, Mira, Naevia, Saxa, Nasir, and a host of other slaves, began a two year fight against the Roman Empire.
Now for the why I love this show…..lets start with some of the cast.
The pic above is that of the late Andy Whitfield. He was Spartacus in the first season and he died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 39. Ain’t he cute? He was from Australia. And he was great in the role so when he got sick, they (the production team and Starz) had to come up with a new plan. A prequel. But when they realized that Andy wouldn’t be able to return they had to get someone new.
A new actor.
Enter Liam McIntyre. He became Spartacus in season 2 with Andy’s blessing (awwwwww). He brought that same kinda bad ass to the character as well.
Then they would say things like:
“One day Rome shall fade and crumble. Yet you shall always be remembered in the hearts of all who yearn for freedom.”-Agron
“Batiatus: The gods haven’t pissed on me enough for one day?”
Spartacus: “You will fall to command!” Crixus: “You are not a fucking God! And I do not heed to voice upon high!”
There are even better ones on the Spartacus Quotes twitter feed Then add in all the fighting, slicing, blood, war, sex and you got some good tv.
Of course knowing history, I knew that it was coming to end. But that didn’t make last nights season ending any less sad and the credits ended with a tribute to the entire cast from all seasons and well take a look…
I will miss this show a lot but thank goodness for DVD’s and streaming video.
Were you a fan of the show? Will you miss it? If you didn’t watch, did I peek your curiosity a little bit?
